WeightSevere Obesity is associated with many problems from medical, physical, social to psychological. Many a times it's hard to lose weight with diet & exercise. The obesity surgery introduced in 1950s, has been refined & improved and its now recognized by the NIH as the treatment of choice for safe, successful, long term weight loss for the severly obese. Since 2004, Dr. VINOD K. SINGHAL has been providing obesity surgical services to those suffering the debilitatting effects of the life-threatening morbid obesity in India.
Gastric Surgery for Severe Obesity
Severe obesity is a chronic condition that is very difficult to treat. Surgery to promote weight loss by restricting food intake or interrupting digestive processes is an option for severely obese people.
A body mass index (BMI) above 40 -- which means about 100 pounds of overweight for men and about 80 pounds for women -- indicates that a person is severely obese and therefore a candidate for surgery.
Surgery also may be an option for people with a BMI between 35 and 40 who suffer from life-threatening cardiopulmonary problems (for example, severe sleep apnea or obesity-related heart disease) or diabetes.
However, as in other treatments for obesity, successful results depend mainly on motivation and behavior.
Excessive Weight leads to many problems:
Excessive Weight
1. Diabetes 2. High Blood Pressure 3. Heart Problems e.g. Angina, Heart Attack 4. Brain Hemorrhage 5. Osteo Arthritis 6. Backache 7. Sexual Problems e.g. Impotence/Sterility/Menstrual irregularities 8. Breathlessness/Sleep Disorder. 9. Immobility 10. Diseases of gall bladder Are you suffering from any of these problems? if yes, you require WEIGHT REDUCTION

Gastric Banding (GB)

The band is placed laparoscopicaly "key hole surgery"
The band can be adjusted by injecting fluid into as an outpatient
- Reversible -Hospital stay 2-3 days
In this procedure a band made of silastic material is placed around the stomach near its upper end creating a small pouch & narrow passage into the larger remainder of the stomach.

Gastric Bypass

- Gastric pouch 30ml - Part of small intestine is bypassed - Greater weight loss - Hospital stay 3-5 days - Vitamin mineral supplementation required In this procedure a small stomach pouch is crated by stapling the stomach. This causes restriction of the food intake. Next a "Y" shaped section of the small intestine is attached to the pouch to allow food to bypass the first part of small intestine. This causes reduced calories & nutrient absorption.
